Roots

A deeply personal piece, the story behind this capulín tree is very emotional. Before embarking on the journey that would become Taller Batán, we stumbled upon a dead capulín tree, a wood species native to the Mexican valley and a part of the diet of the prehispanic peoples This tree had fallen victim to a lightning strike, engulfing it in flames that persisted for days before we discovered it. Crafting a sculpture from this tree, preserving its charred blackness as a symbol of the lightning strike, felt like a profound and predestined work—a symbol of the direction we were meant to take with our project.
